Trials can be extraordinarily painful. The answer isn’t positive thinking or trying harder—the answer is to realize that your life is short and eternity is long. God is so much greater than your problems that you must place your hope in him.

Trial: Trial and Sin

Peter’s big idea is that Christians are “exiles” on mission for Jesus in a world that is not their home. Consequently, their life is filled with trial. God uses trial for much good in us, for us, and through us.

A wedding day is a beautiful thing, but the most important day of your marriage is the last day. In this sermon, Pastor Mark looks at the wedding day of the Princess and King Solomon. The first day paints the picture of a wonderful marriage, but later, the marriage is ruined because Solomon does not stay faithful to his wife, his covenant, or his God.

Fears can break trust and intimacy, foxes are the seemingly small sins that sneak into a marriage and create disunity, and friends need to be there to hold a marriage in accountability and help each spouse love one another and Jesus more.

Marriages crumble often because the husband and wife don’t communicate or take care of each other. In the Song of Songs, God gives us principles for married couples that will help keep them faithful to each other and satisfied with one another. Pastor Mark Driscoll preaches on some of these principles in The Peasant Princess: A Love Story from the Song of Songs.

Sermon: Pray Like Jesus: The High Priestly Prayer (Pt. 2)

In John 17 we find Jesus praying that his people would find joy in the Spirit, mission to do His work, and unity to show His glory. This is a sermon that breaks down the petty differences that we focus on, and refocuses us on the all consuming glory of Christ. If we all look toward Christ for our lives—we will get joy, be compelled to mission, and be unified through our common passion.

With the cross approaching, Jesus pauses in John 17 to pray his longest prayer in all of the Scriptures. Therein, we are privileged to listen to the inner dialogue of the Trinity as God the Son speaks to God the Father. This prayer is packed with deep theological and practical implications, such as faithfulness in trial, God’s goodness, the World, the elect, joy, and much more.

Sermon - Pray Like Jesus: The Gethsemane Prayer

When Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, he was at the hardest point of his earthly life. In anguish, pain, and desperation we see God the Son pray to God the Father asking that God would take away the suffering he was about to experience, and ended his prayer with an essential phrase that every Christian must understand‚ “not my will, but yours, be done”. We can pray and ask our Father for the things we desire, but at the end of the day we must understand that His will is what’s best for our joy and His glory.

Sermon - Worship: God Transforms

Everyone is a worshiper. We all have people or things that we love, sacrifice for, and are our number one affection. The main question each person should answer is this—Do you worship created things, or the Creator?

God deserves to be worshiped. He created everyone and everything. Our place as the creation is to worship our Creator. Pastor Mark Driscoll investigates the many idols that we are completely oblivious too, and shows that every problem in life is, at its core, a worship problem.

The Church is not just a building people visit on Sunday, it’s a group of people that God has brought together to give Him glory and tell the world about how great He is. Pastor Mark examines how the Church began, Jesus’ relationship to the Church, the Biblical definition of a local church, and a warning of danger to churches everywhere.

Sermon - Resurrection: God Saves

Resurrection is the doctrine that after dying on a cross, Jesus physically rose to life‚ conquering Satan, Sin, and Death. Jesus now sits on His throne as King. In this sermon, Pastor Mark Driscoll explores the Biblical and circumstantial evidence of Jesus' bodily resurrection, then deals frankly with common objections to this doctrine.

At the literal crux of human history, Christ hangs on a tree. Jesus' death for our sins has become in some cases so commonplace that we miss the brutality of it, and at the same time we forget how it perfectly demonstrates the love of God for us. Pastor Mark Driscoll teaches about the Cross, including some aspects of what Jesus' death accomplished in this sermon from Doctrine - What Christians Should Believe.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”. That’s the opening line of Genesis. But how old is the earth? Where did everything come from? And are we all just evolved beings from a totally different species? The doctrine of creation is a big topic for debate among Christians and non-Christians alike. Pastor Mark Driscoll teaches on it in the third week of our sermon series, Doctrine.

Special: Continuous Worship

When we speak of “worship” most people associate the word with gatherings of spiritual people in sacred places. In modern church circles worship has become identified almost exclusively with music performed and sung in church services. When we look to scripture we see that this is a tragic reduction of the biblical idea of worship which spans from Genesis to Revelation and encompasses all of life. Worship is the continuous outpouring of all humanity for better or for worse; for God glorifying worship or self glorifying idolatry. Before we can establish practical, God glorifying corporate worship in our churches we must first think biblically about the larger theological context of this defining issue. If we fail to do this we create an idol out of the very thing we are intending glorify God.

Pastor Tim Smith speaks about the larger context of worship and how it relates to the world around us in culture. This message came from the Resurgence: Continuous Worship conference fall 2007. For more information about Pastor Tim and both worship and culture check out http://www.doxologist.com.

Sermon: Religion Saves and 9 Other Misconceptions - Regulative Principle

How do we decide the best way to worship corporately? Do we rely on tradition or cultural innovations like sitting down and reading by electric light? Most importantly, what does the Bible have to say on the matter? Pastor Mark Driscoll finishes out our sermon series, Religion Saves and 9 Other Misconceptions by answering the question, "do you believe that the Scripture not only regulates our theology but also our methodology? In other words, do you believe in the regulative principle? If so, to what degree? If not, why not?"

Sermon: Religion Saves and 9 Other Misconceptions - Emerging Church

There are lots of different churches out there. One of the newer types is called "emerging", which really just means that they're into "conversations" and, sometimes, wacky theology. Pastor Mark Driscoll addresses the topic of the 'emerging church' in his sermon answering the question, "What can traditional/established churches learn from "emerging" churches?" This is the eighth sermon in a nine week series, Religion Saves and 9 Other Misconceptions.
